Community Engagement

Read Aloud makes an effort to incorporate community engagement into all of our programs. Schools cannot bear the sole responsibility for raising readers. Parents, relatives and neighbors are critically important role models in the lives of children. These individuals have the opportunity to influence a child’s perception of education and help them develop positive habits.

Our Focus

Read Aloud works consistently to raise public awareness regarding:

– The importance of reading to children from infancy into adolescence.

– The value of a print-rich environment.

– The existence of the Read Aloud organization and its programs.

– The need for volunteers and funding as we continue to work to motivate children to want to read.

How You Can Help

You don’t have to volunteer with Read Aloud (although we’d love to have you!) to make an impact on literacy in your community. Talking to friends and family about the importance of reading to children from birth, giving books as gifts to new parents and kids in your life, and reading to and in front of kids are all great ways to educate and engage your circle about books. Building a more literate society isn’t a one and done activity – it requires a daily commitment to raising readers, with small choices adding up over time.
