Read Aloud’s website gets a makeover

Just because we’re all about old school, paper and ink books over here at Read Aloud doesn’t mean that we don’t value looking slick and professional on the web! Thanks to our now staff member and former board member, Dawn Miller, and some generous help from Charleston Newspapers’ staff, Read Aloud West Virginia has had a website to share news, book reviews, and more since 2008. It’s gone through many iterations since then, with one redesign by Dreamcatcher Creative, and an eventual porting over to the WordPress platform we use today. Our first staff-built site was implemented primarily by former Read Aloud staffer, Lynn Kessler, on a beautiful theme called “Hope.” Unfortunately, we had to move away from that model because of increasing costs to use their content.

The 2019 redesign we’re sporting right now was completely revamped by our new Communications & Development pro, Amanda Schwartz. It uses Phlox as its base theme and the powerful WordPress page builder, Elementor, to achieve its modern, yet classic, look. Our favorite new website feature is the posts slider on our homepage and sidebar that can keep you informed on all our latest content!

Please take some time to click around, check out the new look and streamlined content solutions, and let us know what you think! You can comment on our Facebook post or shoot us an email at aschwartz@readaloudwv.org with your thoughts. We especially want to know if you notice something that’s not working optimally for you – whether it’s a broken link or a lack of info. This website is for you – our volunteers, supporters, donors, and community members – so we want to hear your perspective!
