Read Aloud WV

Keeping books in their hands and on their minds since 1986.

Read Aloud West Virginia’s mission is to motivate children to WANT to read, because motivation is the critical first step in developing any skill. We work to change the literacy culture of West Virginia by keeping reading material in the hands and on the minds of our state’s children…

Give the love of reading to a child in your community.

Readers Are Leaders

Our volunteers reach students and families all over the state by reading in elementary classrooms, coordinating events for education and outreach, preparing books to be distributed to kids, and so much more! Join the movement for a more literate WV and volunteer today! Follow the prompts below to get started reading in a classroom or visit the "Our Counties" tab to get involved with your local chapter.

Volunteer Readers

Our trained volunteer readers serve as a commercial for reading and send a powerful message that reading is an enjoyable lifetime activity.

Book Distribution

We provide students with books through a variety of programs because access to books is essential to raising a generation of readers.

Reader-Friendly Classrooms

We help teachers create text-rich, reader friendly schools through free events, resources, book distributions, and volunteer readers.

Community Engagement

We educate on the importance of reading to children from infancy into adolescence, the value of a print-rich environment, and more!

An original founder of Read Aloud and first Executive Director, Mary Kay Bond has dedicated her career to motivating children to read for fun. After 30+ years of service to the children and families of WV, Mary Kay is taking her well-deserved retirement. This year, our annual Read-A-Palooza fundraiser is all about honoring Mary Kay’s work and securing the future of the organization she built. The event will feature toasts and story sharing about Mary Kay, a small silent auction, and food and beverages in a casual environment with a happy hour feel. Help us to celebrate the legacy and vision of a great woman by joining us in UC’s Riggleman Rotunda for Read-A-Palooza 2020!

Click here to buy tickets online, or mail us a check with Read-A-Palooza in the memo line.
